Block 10
Block 10: Business Development Center
The Block 10 Business Development Center will serve as the headquarters for Sha Shäw Corporation (SSC), fostering economic and community growth. This flagship project aims to inspire and support community-based entrepreneurs and leaders, equipping them to shape the future economic potential of the region.
Project Overview:
The development is a two-storey, multi-purpose building located on the west side of the Alaska Highway (Block 10, Lot 1 & 2, Plan 19794), adjacent to Our Lady of the Way Church. Conceptual designs and a viability study have been completed, and SSC is prepared to proceed with detailed design and construction.
First Floor:
The ground floor will address the pressing need for centralized office space. It will house the CAFN Economic Development offices and CAFN’s corporate entities, including SSC. This location will serve as a convenient hub for CAFN citizens to connect with the Economic Development team, ensuring accessible and responsive service delivery.
Second Floor:
The upper floor is designed as a versatile meeting, event, and training center, available for rental. This space will support a variety of uses, including workshops, meetings, and community activities such as art classes and yoga sessions. Highlights of the second floor include:
A small kitchen for events
A deck offering breathtaking views of the St. Elias Mountain Range
Large windows to enhance natural light and the spectacular scenery
Additionally, the second floor will feature two short-term housing units, addressing temporary accommodation needs in the community.
Sustainability Commitment:
SSC is committed to constructing highly energy-efficient buildings. The Business Development Center will feature walls with an R-value of approximately R55 and ceilings with an R-value of approximately R90, ensuring a sustainable and eco-conscious design.
This project represents SSC’s dedication to advancing economic opportunities while creating a central, inclusive space for community engagement and development.
